Volunteer: TAPS is the national nonprofit organization providing compassionate care and comprehensive resources for all those grieving the death of a military or veteran loved one. If you are here because our mission to care for the families of America’s fallen heroes speaks to you as well, we welcome you to connect with us about giving,  volunteering,  professional engagement  or careers. Volunteerism is at the very foundation of TAPS. In 2023, nearly 5,000 volunteers donated their time and talent to support the TAPS mission, providing more than 71,000 hours of support. In addition to their generosity, more than 1,100 Military Mentors volunteered 60,000 hours supporting survivors.

Participate: Irreverent Warriors knows that the best support network for veterans, is other veterans. We bring a community of warriors together through therapeutic events across the country. We also work with other veteran organizations who provide services such as job placement, training, housing, service dogs and more.

Volunteer: Hire Heroes USA is a veteran employment nonprofit charity. Volunteer opportunities through mentoring, LinkedIn reviews, fundraising, sharing industry knowledge with job seekers on webinars, and mentoring in the Federal Sector. Volunteer coordinators will reach out to you with candidate availability and try to match candidates with volunteers at mutually beneficial times. LinkedIn reviews are on your own time. Volunteer: Honor Flight Network is a national nonprofit organization comprised of independent hubs working together to achieve the Honor Flight mission. Participation in an Honor Flight trip gives veterans the opportunity to share this momentous occasion with other comrades, remember the fallen, and share their stories and experiences with other veterans. Honored veterans always travel free of charge, thanks to generous donations to our organization. Veterans can sign up for an Honor Flight trip. Anyone can get involved as a volunteer by searching here for an Honor Flight Hub near you. 

Attend: Through a variety of events, Straz Salutes delivers positive arts experiences for service members, veterans and families that helps build bridges between military service and civilian life. Your VetChat/ Military Nights is a pre-show chat that creates the opportunity to cultivate conversation and foster togetherness between veterans, active-duty military, and their families. After Your VetChat, we invite you to see the Broadway show Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations. Unlike our previous Military Nights, you must attend and collect your Broadway tickets at the pre-show Your VetChat in order to attend the Broadway show.

Attend: America’s Warrior Partnership (AWP) holds monthly “Battle Rhythm” virtual calls to share valuable information with the veteran/first responder community. In January’s Battle Rhythm, AWP goes over the CDC Foundation’s evaluation toolkit. This toolkit is to be used to develop and implement evaluation plans for public health programs, particularly for upstream suicide prevention strategies. However, the tools and techniques are relevant to any nonprofit programming. This is a virtual event open to all to attend.

Observe: Each January across the nation, we pause to reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a great humanitarian and visionary leader whose courage was instrumental in bringing freedom and liberty to all Americans. Dr. King understood, as every Veteran understands, that freedom is never free. Generations of Service members have stood against injustice, tyranny and oppression and have broken the bonds of slavery around the world. Even though Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., never served in the American armed forces, the Department of Defense joins the nation in honoring the life and legacy of King by making the holiday a day of community service – “A Day On, Not A Day Off.”

Ride/ Donate/ Volunteer: The Honor Ride is a non-competitive cycling event where active service members, injured veterans, first responders and the general public all get to ride together. From building and donating adaptive bikes and producing cycling events throughout the nation to supporting community-based rehabilitation and recovery programs and important medical and clinical research, Project Hero is raising awareness of the national PTS mental health crisis and making a difference in the lives of thousands of Veterans and First Responders, as well as their families and communities. Attend/ Donate: This fundraiser is a Valentine’s Day dance with heavy hors d’oeuvres, music, dancing, and silent auction. The funds raised from this event will help send WWII veterans who fought in Normandy and Belgium back to Europe on a Trip of Honor in June 2025.

Observe: Presidents’ Day, officially Washington’s Birthday at the federal governmental level, is a holiday in the United States celebrated on the third Monday of February. It is often celebrated to honor all those who served as presidents of the United States .

Observe: The Coast Guard Reserve was established by the passage of the Coast Guard Reserve and Auxiliary Act of February 19, 1941. That act also established the Coast Guard Auxiliary under its present name.

Attend: Action Zone Marketplace is an opportunity for Veteran and Military Spouses to showcase their business, make sales and connect with their customers in hopes to gain repeat customers.

Participate/Volunteers: The Gasparilla Distance Classic Association is thrilled to welcome ABC Action News as the official and exclusive television partner of 2025 Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend Events. ABC is also the title sponsor of the ABC Action News Military Challenge, a challenge explicitly created for active, retired, and former members of the United States Military. Participate: Join WID-GTB and AFCEA Central Florida chapter members for an exciting evening of networking and Tampa Bay Lightning hockey. The event starts at 5:00 PM with two hours of networking at the Budweiser Biergarten, featuring an open bar and stadium food—all included with your ticket. Then, at 7:00 PM, watch the Tampa Bay Lightning take on the Calgary Flames. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to connect and enjoy the game!

Observe: The U.S. Navy Reserve Birthday is celebrated annually on March 3 to commemorate the establishment of the United States Navy Reserve. Did you know the Navy Reserve was established in 1915, making it more than a century younger than the U.S. Navy.

Attend/ Donate: Stirrup Hope is the annual fundraising gala for Quantum Leap Farm’s equine-assisted therapy programs. Our theme this year is Disney’s Tangled, a movie based on the story of Rapunzel. Her story teaches us that although it may seem scary, adventuring out of your comfort zone may lead to great new experiences for you. Rapunzel’s journey – so closely parallels that of many of our veterans, pediatric cancer patients, and children and adults with special needs. They too are navigating a difficult and sometimes isolating journey, trying to find that place where they belong. Donate/ Run/Walk: Get ready for the Lightning Warriors St. Patrick’s Day 5k Run/Walk. The Lightning Warriors are a 501(c)(3) dedicated to serving disabled veterans. We help educate and provide support through the great game of ice hockey.

Sponsor/ Donate/ Play: Operation Healing Forces hosts an annual event with a national security forum and benefit dinner. The evening is spent with two esteemed military leaders contributing their insights on America’s strikes and strategies; the conversation was both enlightening and thought-provoking. In previous years, General (Ret.) Joseph Votel, former Commanding General of U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) and United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and General (Ret.) Tony Thomas, former Commanding General of U.S. Special Operations Command, provided enriched discussions and deepened our understanding of the challenges our nation’s Special Operations Forces heroes face. This event allows OHF to provide support for other SOF warriors & their families the support they have been searching for.

Observe: The day was chosen because the last U.S. combat troops left the Republic of Vietnam on March 29, 1973. The last prisoners of war held in North Vietnam also arrived on American soil on that day. The day honors the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and their families, and recognizes those who were not properly welcomed home.

Observe: April is the Month of the Military Child (MOMC). The life of a military kid is a blend of unique adventures and challenges. It’s important to keep in mind that they serve our country too, as part of a military family… not just in April, but all year long. Observe: Gold Star Spouses Day is a solemn but important day of remembrance and recognition observed on April 5 each year. It is a day dedicated to honoring the spouses of military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Participate: Join the Woody Williams Foundation, in partnership with the Nashville Sounds Baseball Club, is excited to present Gold Star Family Day at the Ballpark. This Outreach event was developed by the Woody Williams Foundation to host Gold Star Family members for baseball, food, community, peer support, and great fun! Families in attendance will enjoy watching the Nashville Sounds (AAA team of the Milwaukee Brewers) as they battle the Memphis Redbirds (AAA team of the St. Louis Cardinals).  A meal will be provided to all families. As a part of this special day, Gold Star Family members will be throwing out the first pitch. 

Participate: Join NDIA and Women In Defense- Greater Tampa Bay for our first Inaugural Event – a Clay Shooting Competition sponsored by NDIA and WID of Tampa Bay. This is a great networking opportunity with proceeds going toward the Wounded Warrior Project. The event will run from 2pm to 6:30pm.

Observe: The Air Force Reserve was officially established on April 14, 1948, by President Harry S. Truman, seven months after the Air Force was established as a separate service. The Reserve’s lineage, however, dates back more than 100 years to when Reserve air power was established in the National Defense Act of 1916.

Observe: National Military Appreciation Month is a month-long observance in the United States that takes place in May to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. military, both past and present.

Volunteer/ Sponsor/ Attend: WWAR is hosting the 2025 United States Wheelchair Rugby Association (USWRA) Championship.  The USWRA championship provides competitive athletic opportunities to people with disabilities featuring over 40 teams with more than 500 adaptive athletes across the country. The Nationals will be 18 – 20 Teams fighting to be National Champions with over 70% Veterans.

Apply for Scholarship: Since 2013, the Jackson in Action 83 Foundation has been dedicated to supporting military families through education. Our Salute to Scholars scholarship program is open to graduating high school seniors in the Tampa Bay area who are dependents of active duty, retired, or deceased military members. Scholarship recipients may be attending a four-year university, vocational/technical school, or community college. Students attending any of the service academies are not eligible to apply. Four scholarship recipients will be selected to receive scholarships in the amounts of $3,000, $2,000, $1,000, and $500.

Attend/Sponsor: The JCSE Veterans Association is pleased to announce the kickoff for our annual JCSE-VA “Dollars for Scholars” and JCSE Memorial Golf Tournament. Observe: May 13th is Children of Fallen Patriots Day. In the past 25 years, more than 15,000 children have lost parents in military conflict. Children of Fallen Patriots Day was created in order to both honor these children and raise awareness of the sacrifices and struggles they must endure in the wake of their parents death

Attend: USAA invites you to attend the 2025 Military Appreciation event. A special evening to honor Tampa Bay’s armed forced. Service members who are actively serving in Macdill Air Force Base and the US Coast Guard sector St. Peterburg will be honored.  Enjoy the live entertainment, great food and drinks, and meaningful connections with fellow business leaders and service members. A brief program will feature remarks from special guest, raffle for military attendees.

Attend/ Sponsor/ Donate: The Storybook Ball on Saturday, May 17th will have the theme of “Moana” and will take place at the Renaissance Tampa International Plaza Hotel. The event promises to be a magical evening featuring cocktails, interactive stations, a delicious selection of food and live music, as well as live and silent auctions. The funds raised from the event will support Ronald McDonald House Charities Tampa Bay which is a home away from home that provides comfort, support, and resources to families who are receiving life saving medical treatment.

Observe: Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May each year to honor and recognize the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces. This day was established in 1949 to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force Days and to promote unity among the military branches.

Observe: Holiday for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Observe: The goal of PTSD Awareness Month is to: Raise public awareness about PTSD, Reduce the stigma associated with PTSD, Ensure that those suffering from PTSD receive proper treatment, and Highlight information about PTSD symptoms, including available treatments.

Attend: The Ask an MS Expert: Veterans program provides an opportunity for attendees to learn more about multiple sclerosis from top MS experts and resources specific to military Veterans. Quarterly programs focus on trending topics related to the Veterans MS community. Experts answer predetermined questions and MS Navigators provide resource support. Program Objectives: Provide evidence-based information on trending topics in MS | Empower and equip Veterans affected by MS to solve challenges and learn about tools to help navigate their journey with MS | Provide an opportunity for the Veterans MS Community to connect with each other and MS experts..

Observe: Women Veterans Day is observed on June 12 to honor the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in 1948. This law allowed women to serve in the military as permanent members, not just during wartime, and in a variety of roles beyond nursing and secretarial work.

Observe: Flag Day is a United States holiday celebrated on June 14th to commemorate the adoption of the American flag on June 14, 1777. The holiday was officially established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916, but it wasn’t until 1949 that Congress approved it and President Harry Truman signed it into law.

Observe: On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress established the Continental Army to defend the 13 colonies during the American Revolution. The first men to enlist were from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Sponsor/ Donate/ Attend: A charity hockey game aimed at raising awareness for veteran suicide prevention. This event will see the Lightning Warriors play 22 continuous hours of hockey against several other local teams in the Tampa Bay area and beyond. A portion of the proceeds from this event is always donated to at least two other charities with a similar mission.

Observe: On 25th June 1950, after years of clashes along the border, the North Korean People’s Army invaded South Korea, overwhelming the south’s forces.

Observe: National PTSD Awareness Day is celebrated annually on June 27. It aims to raise awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder, a mental health problem that may develop after a person has been exposed to one or more traumatic events

Sponsor/ Play/ Donate: The goal is to host a “Christmas in July” 4 mile run on July 4th to help raise funds to provide for Christmas gifts of children of fallen service members. Observe: Independence Day, known colloquially as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America.

Observe: Purple Heart Day is celebrated on August 7th each year to honor the service members who were wounded or killed in action while serving in the United States military. The day also recognizes the bravery of those who fought for the country and ensures that their courage is not forgotten.

The funds raised from this event will send senior veterans on a Trip of Honor to places like Washington D.C.  We can’t forget what our senior veterans did for our country 50, 60, even 75 years ago. These brave men and women served our country faithfully and many still carry the weight of war. Many of these heroes are struggling more than ever. Together, we can free them from the stress of combat and bring them the honor, healing, and hope.

Observe: October 26 is recognized as the National Day of the Deployed, a day dedicated to honoring those deployed in service to the U.S. military. This observance honors all service members who have been deployed in service of our country. The day also acknowledges the sacrifices that military families make during deployment.

Volunteer/Participate: Join us in honoring our country and supporting our heroes through our inaugural Veterans Day Honor Walk . We will begin our 3.3 mile walk at O2 Fitness on Independence Blvd, and end at Anne Bonny’s Bar and Grill in downtown Wilmington with a post-walk celebration to include paws4people dog meet and greets and prizes. Proceeds from the event will support paws4vets, a program of paws4people®, that has been providing some of the world’s most highly trained Service Dogs to our Wounded Veterans since 2008. Along with their Service Dog, they also receive proprietary Intervention Transfer Training®, Peer-to-Peer support and the backing of the entire paws4vets organization for life.

Observe: Marine Corps Day. The United States Marine Corps was established on November 10, 1775, to augment naval forces in the Revolutionary War. The Marine Corps Birthday is one of the biggest social events of the year for leathernecks all over the world.

Observe: Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

Attend & Support: Veterans Day celebration at The ANNIKA. Active or retired military personnel (+a guest) will have complimentary access to the Hero Outpost (Hole 12). This LPGA event – The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican – is being hosted at Pelican Golf Club. In short time, the tournament has become one of the most prestigious stops on the LPGA schedule, and this week, the event will reach heights not previously reached. 

Observe: Thanksgiving is a day of giving thanks and is centered around a Thanksgiving dinner. The menus may look a bit different at each military installation but the Thanksgiving joy is the same, no matter where you go. From New York to Japan, service members dine on traditional Thanksgiving fare and explore local cuisines at home and during deployments.

Volunteer/Attend: QLF is hosting a holiday meal service and hygiene kit distribution for homeless veterans to celebrate their veterans’ accomplishments and success in the Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) MHICM program this year! Quantum Leap Farm is hosting an annual “Holiday Bash” for approximately 100 men and women in the James Haley VA Hospital’s MHICM Program. QLF has been hosting this event since 2008 for individuals with severe and persistent mental health conditions resulting from service related trauma. Most of these veterans are Vietnam era, and are experiencing financial hardship. Quantum Leap also serves them a nice (donated) meal too, and the VA staff gives them awards for things like smoking cessation, reduction in calls to the emergency help lines, managing an apartment independently, etc.

Observe: National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, also referred to as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day or Pearl Harbor Day, is observed annually in the United States on December 7, to remember and honor the 2,403 Americans who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, which led to the United States declaring war on Japan the next day and thus entering World War II.

Observe: We recognize December 13th as the birthday of the National Guard. On this date in 1636, the first militia regiments in North America were organized in Massachusetts.
