Volunteer: TAPS is the national nonprofit organization providing compassionate care and comprehensive resources for all those grieving the death of a military or veteran loved one. If you are here because our mission to care for the families of America’s fallen heroes speaks to you as well, we welcome you to connect with us about giving,  volunteering,  professional engagement  or careers. Volunteerism is at the very foundation of TAPS. In 2023, nearly 5,000 volunteers donated their time and talent to support the TAPS mission, providing more than 71,000 hours of support. In addition to their generosity, more than 1,100 Military Mentors volunteered 60,000 hours supporting survivors.

Attend: Irreverent Warriors knows that the best support network for veterans, is other veterans. We bring a community of warriors together through therapeutic events across the country. We also work with other veteran organizations who provide services such as job placement, training, housing, service dogs and more.

Volunteer: Hire Heroes USA is a veteran employment nonprofit charity. Volunteer opportunities through mentoring, LinkedIn reviews, fundraising, sharing industry knowledge with job seekers on webinars, and mentoring in the Federal Sector. Volunteer coordinators will reach out to you with candidate availability and try to match candidates with volunteers at mutually beneficial times. LinkedIn reviews are on your own time. Volunteer: Honor Flight Network is a national nonprofit organization comprised of independent hubs working together to achieve the Honor Flight mission. Participation in an Honor Flight trip gives veterans the opportunity to share this momentous occasion with other comrades, remember the fallen, and share their stories and experiences with other veterans. Honored veterans always travel free of charge, thanks to generous donations to our organization. Veterans can sign up for an Honor Flight trip. Anyone can get involved as a volunteer by searching for an Honor Flight Hub near you. 

Attend: Attend Women in Defense Greater Tampa Bay Chapter monthly luncheons and network with professionals in the national security and defense sectors while gaining insights from speakers. 

Get Involved: Family Fun Days are just that – a free of charge opportunity for families to recreate together, outdoors, and expand their social support networks. Some events are group specific (military families, pediatric cancer patients) and others are all populations.

Get Involved: Sponsored by the Woody Williams Foundation, this year’s 67th AutoZone Liberty Bowl will continue the Bowl’s patriotic mission by paying tribute to Gold Star Families.

Observe: Each January across the nation, we pause to reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a great humanitarian and visionary leader whose courage was instrumental in bringing freedom and liberty to all Americans. Dr. King understood, as every Veteran understands, that freedom is never free. Generations of Service members have stood against injustice, tyranny and oppression and have broken the bonds of slavery around the world. Even though Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., never served in the American armed forces, the Department of Defense joins the nation in honoring the life and legacy of King by making the holiday a day of community service – “A Day On, Not A Day Off.”

Get Involved: The Tunnel to Towers Foundation Clearwater 5K Run and Walk is an annual event honoring our military and first responder heroes. Born after 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation raises funds to build smart homes for catastrophically wounded veterans and first responders. We also pay off mortgages for Gold Star Families and families of fallen first responders. Additionally we are eradicating veteran homelessness by providing permanent housing and social services for our homeless heroes. Join us for a sentimental yet fun event. Our first responders and military race wearing their full gear! Such a fine sight to see!

Get Involved: The Honor Ride is a local cycling event that is open to the public with the goal of raising funds for Project Hero. Funds are used to allow veterans and first responders to ride for free at Honor Rides, support them on a Challenge Ride (six day therapeutic bike ride) and/or help them get a bike, learn how to ride to be able to join in at a Honor Ride or Challenge Ride. Project Hero’s overall goal is to help decrease the suicide rate amongst veterans and first responders. Cycling has proven to help decrease PTS related attacks, reduce the amount of prescription drug use and reduce pain and physical discomfort. Observe: American Heart Month is celebrated in February to raise awareness about heart disease. During this time, the American Heart Association, along with organizations like the CDC and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), encourages people to focus on cardiovascular health through lifestyle changes, risk assessment, and community involvement. Key activities include getting regular check-ups for blood pressure and cholesterol, eating a healthy diet, exercising, and participating in events like National Wear Red Day on the first Friday of February.

Get Involved: The mission of the Vincent Jackson Family Foundation is to positively impact the quality of life of our community’s veterans through housing initiatives. Over the years, the foundation has completed new home construction for Tampa area veterans, as well as completed rehab/cleanup projects at existing veteran homes. We often work with other local housing and veteran support nonprofits such as Habitat for Humanity Gulfside and Operation Code Vet to identify veteran housing projects that need our support. 

Observe: Four Chaplains Day honors four WWII chaplains (Catholic, Jewish, Protestant) who sacrificed their lives by giving up their life jackets on the sinking USS Dorchester in 1943, linking arms in prayer as the ship went down in the icy North Atlantic. The day is observed nationwide with interfaith memorial services. 

Get Involved: A BBQ brisket competition and live country music festival hosted by the Wounded Warriors Ability Ranch.  

Donate: The Leo K. Thorsness Leadership Award honors and recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and outstanding service to veteran communities. It is named after the late Col. Leo K. Thorsness, a Medal of Honor recipient, one of the most highly decorated American airmen of the Vietnam War, and a founding member of the America’s Warrior Partnership Board of Directors until his passing in 2017.  

Observe: The Coast Guard Reserve was established by the passage of the Coast Guard Reserve and Auxiliary Act of February 19, 1941. That act also established the Coast Guard Auxiliary under its present name.

Get Involved: A Golf Tournament to Honor Cpl Michael Estrella . Part of Mike Delancey’s 3/3 Company who was killed in Action in Iraq by the same sniper that caused Mike’s Injuries 3 months later. Get Involved: Join us in Mimosa Bay – this year’s race will celebrate 20 years of Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command. As always, all proceeds from the race go directly to The Marine Raider Foundation! The Marine Raider Foundation supports active-duty and medically retired members of the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC), their families, and Gold Star families (families of those killed in action), as well as WWII Marine Raiders. Observe: Brain Injury Awareness Month is observed every March to raise public understanding of brain injuries and support survivors and their caregivers. The month is used to promote prevention, recognize the signs and symptoms, and advocate for better treatment and support services. Organizations like the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) lead awareness campaigns and provide resources to help reduce the occurrence of brain injuries.

Get Involved: This fundraising event aims to support academic scholarships for children of disabled and deceased first responders and military service members. Donations and raffle ticket sales will help fund scholarships for the 2027/2028 academic year. The 9.11 Promise awards $5,000 to $15,000 merit-based scholarships each year.

These camps combine group facilitation with activities like yoga, breathwork, journaling, and meditation, offering a unique blend of therapeutic resources within a traditional golf camp experience. Observe: The U.S. Navy Reserve Birthday is celebrated annually on March 3 to commemorate the establishment of the United States Navy Reserve. Did you know the Navy Reserve was established in 1915, making it more than a century younger than the U.S. Navy?

Get Involved: Join the Americas Warrior Partnership in supporting veterans/military families and their caregivers on the Navajo Nation. 

Get Involved: Join us Friday, March 6th for our 10th annual Sporting Clays for Kids at Tampa Bay Sporting Clays. A day full of clay shooting, networking, games, prizes, and fun! Activities include both a silent and live auction, as well as a delicious BBQ lunch. Each participant will receive a continental breakfast courtesy of McDonald’s all while supporting kids and families staying at Ronald McDonald House of Tampa Bay!

Get Involved: Stirrup Hope is a fun, early-evening gala held on site at Quantum Leap Farm in beautiful Odessa, Florida. Dress is “Cowboy Chic” and the evening includes a Happy Hour, photo opportunities with our Therapy Horses, a delicious plated dinner, and an impactful presentation. Monies raised help underwrite scholarships for program participants: veterans, pediatric cancer patients, special needs kids & adults, and their families. Veterans always attend programs free of charge, and many of our families undergo financial hardship. Scholarships prevent inability to pay for services from being a barrier to participation. Event attendance is free of charge, valet parking is available.

Get Involved: 22ZERO Healing the Hero is a nonprofit organization providing free, peer-to-peer, non-clinical trauma healing for veterans, first responders, and their families using unique methods like the Trauma Healing Process (THP) and Emotional Healing Process (EHP) to resolve PTS, anxiety, and anger without reliving traumatic events. 22ZERO has a training in the Trauma Healing Process and Emotional Healing Process which is virtual both days, March 7th and 8th, from 9-5 EST. Get Involved: Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) provides comprehensive “Cradle to Career” educational funding and advocacy for the children of fallen Special Operators, children of deceased SOF spouses. This event is a Golf Tournament and Dinner in support of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and UDT Seal Association.

Get Involved: Golf Tournament hosted by the JCSE Veteran’s Association and the JCSE military unit on MacDill AFB. Proceeds from the event fund the CSM(ret) Charles Monson Memorial Scholarship fund which provides academic scholarships to JCSE-VA members, their spouses and their children.

Observe: The Medal of Honor is the United States’ highest award for military valor in action and was first signed into law in 1861 during the Civil War. The Medal is a distinguished award, presented to those who have shown gallantry and intrepidity, at the risk of their lives, above and beyond the call of duty.

Get Involved: Experience the thrill of the National MS Society’s Bike MS: Suncoast Challenge, a one-day cycling adventure just an hour from Tampa. Pedal through the scenic landscapes of Sarasota County, with coastal views along Casey Key, breathtaking bridges, and the renowned 5-star Legacy Cycling Trail — you may even encounter a pirate or two along the way. Observe: The day was chosen because the last U.S. combat troops left the Republic of Vietnam on March 29, 1973. The last prisoners of war held in North Vietnam also arrived on American soil on that day. The day honors the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and their families, and recognizes those who were not properly welcomed home.

Observe: April is the Month of the Military Child (MOMC). The life of a military kid is a blend of unique adventures and challenges. It’s important to keep in mind that they serve our country too, as part of a military family… not just in April, but all year long. Celebrate the challenges and triumphs of our military-connected children. These amazing kids selflessly sacrifice for our country and are brave, proud, and strong.

Observe: Gold Star Spouses Day is a solemn but important day of remembrance and recognition observed on April 5 each year. It is a day dedicated to honoring the spouses of military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Get Involved: Tennis and Pickleball Tournaments including silent auction, raffle, wine pull and 50/50. Tennis & Pickleball start 8 am and run all day. All proceeds to benefit Tunnel to Towers Foundation. On Sept. 11, 2001, FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller strapped his gear to his back and raced on foot through the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to the World Trade Center Site after he received word of an attack. There, he gave up his life while saving others. 

Observe: The Air Force Reserve was officially established on April 14, 1948, by President Harry S. Truman, seven months after the Air Force was established as a separate service. The Reserve’s lineage, however, dates back more than 100 years to when Reserve air power was established in the National Defense Act of 1916.

Observe: Formed April 23, 1908 as the Medical Reserve Corps, today’s U.S. Army Reserve has evolved into a global operational reserve force, engaged to support America’s active duty forces.

Get Involved: This event reinforces our joint community of care for Veterans, and we are proud to offer various resources that will aid unhoused and at-risk Veterans who are on their road to recovery. We are joining Bay Pines VA Staff, fellow Veteran Service Organizations and volunteers from across the area to offer multiple forms of assistance to include: medical care, toiletries, clothing items, meals, benefits and housing information, employment assistance, veterinarian services, and DMV services. Veterans will also be able to receive assistance through the Stand Down Court, which provides opportunities for Veterans to speak with various legal experts from Pinellas County to address outstanding legal issues.

Get Involved: Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) provides comprehensive “Cradle to Career” educational funding and advocacy for the children of fallen Special Operators, children of deceased SOF spouses.  This event is a Gala dinner for Special Operations Warrior Foundation (No Fundraising at this event.)

Get Involved: The Patriot Fund’s mission is to provide funding for the critical services Veterans deserve to ensure their lifelong needs are sustained. We fully vet and only support Best In Class partners who impact the lives of Veterans – TODAY. We recognize that the transition from military service to civilian life presents significant challenges for America’s Veterans. From mental health struggles to reintegration barriers, these obstacles can prevent our heroes from living the fulfilling lives they deserve. That’s why our mission goes beyond just providing funding; we build strategic partnerships with best-in-class nonprofit organizations that directly address the most pressing issues Veterans and their families face. We focus our funding efforts on five critical areas to ensure Veterans receive comprehensive, life-changing support: Mental Health and Wellness; 2) Disability Support and Adaptive Services; 3) Comprehensive Support for Basic Needs; 4) Reintegration & Civilian Transition; and 5) Military-Connected Families, Children & Youth.

Get Involved:  You are invited to the annual Robert Irvine Foundation Military Heroes golf event. The event is designed to provide our sponsors, veterans and wounded heroes with a unique experience honoring those who wear the cloth of our nation. Programming includes a foursome scramble golf tournament, on-course activities and stations, a chef-driven barbeque luncheon, and meet & greet with Chef Robert Irvine. As Robert reminds us, Nothing is Impossible – Let’s make a difference together!

Get Involved: Join the Woody Williams Foundation, in partnership with the Nashville Sounds Baseball Club, is excited to present Gold Star Family Day at the Ballpark. This Outreach event was developed by the Woody Williams Foundation to host Gold Star Family members for baseball, food, community, peer support, and great fun! Families in attendance will enjoy watching the Nashville Sounds (AAA team of the Milwaukee Brewers) as they battle the Memphis Redbirds (AAA team of the St. Louis Cardinals).  A meal will be provided to all families. As a part of this special day, Gold Star Family members will be throwing out the first pitch. 

Observe: National Military Appreciation Month is a month-long observance in the United States that takes place in May to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. military, both past and present.

Observe: National Mental Health Awareness Month is observed to raise awareness about mental health and mental health care. The month-long observance, started in 1949 by Mental Health America, aims to reduce stigma, provide support, educate the public, and advocate for policies that help those with mental health conditions and their families. 

Observe: Trauma Awareness Month is observed annually to raise awareness about trauma prevention and education. Established in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan, the month-long observance focuses on preventing injuries and promoting safety, with different themes each year, such as distracted driving, sports injuries, and falls.

Get Involved: The Endeavor Awards® gala event celebrates and honors volunteer pilots with awards and provides charitable support to the organizations that coordinate their gifts of flight to serve those in need. Every year thousands of donated flights save lives, provide access to medical care, transport Veterans, rescue animals, map environmental data, aid in disaster relief and contribute to the public good in communities nationwide. The Endeavor Awards® fundraising events were established by Angel Flight West, a Volunteer Pilot Organization arranging over 5,000 flights each year in the twelve western states. AFW recognized the need for a national platform to increase awareness and support for the use of aviation by individual pilots and their commercial airline partners to provide free transportation for humanitarian purposes.

Get Involved: The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System hosts an annual baby shower for new and expectant Veteran mothers as a way to show appreciation for their service and support them as they embark on motherhood, according to the VA. The event, which is a continuation of a tradition that began in 2018, includes gifts like portable cribs, diaper bags, car seats, and baby clothes. This event is open to Veterans receiving maternity care through Bay Pines VA and their families. The baby shower is a collaborative effort between the Bay Pines VA Women Veterans Program, community volunteers, and donors. The event provides a supportive and welcoming environment for the mothers and families, with family-friendly activities and resources.

Get Involved: The VFW Day of Service is a day set aside for veteran-led local community service events. It is an outgrowth of the VFW’s #StillServing initiative that since 2020 has brought recognition to how much U.S. military veterans continue to serve in their communities after they take off their uniform.

Observe: International Firefighters’ Day is observed on May 4, in order to honor firefighters for their service internationally, remember firefighters who lost their lives during service and to commemorate firefighters killed in the September 11 attacks.

Observe: First recognized by President Ronald Reagan in 1984, Military Spouse Appreciation Day was established to honor the sacrifices and contributions of military spouses. 

Observe: Armed Forces Week is a week of celebrations that culminates in Armed Forces Day, the third Saturday of May in the United States. While the entire week honors the military, Armed Forces Day specifically recognizes and pays tribute to the men and women currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force. 

Observe: Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police week  (May 15) : Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week is an observance in the United States that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty. It is celebrated May 15 of each year.

Observe: May 13th is Children of Fallen Patriots Day. In the past 25 years, more than 15,000 children have lost parents in military conflict. Children of Fallen Patriots Day was created in order to both honor these children and raise awareness of the sacrifices and struggles they must endure in the wake of their parents death

Get Involved: Annual fundraising gala. Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch (WWAR) was built to inspire veterans of all conflicts to get OUT and get ACTIVE by offering activities for all Military Veterans in need of a supportive and healing environment. WWAR offers a huge range of activities, workshops, clinics and events for all veterans and the adaptive sports community in the Tampa Bay Area.

Get Involved: Join us Monday, May 16th for our Storybook Ball gala! A fun evening with dinner and dancing the night away! Activities include both a raffle and silent auction all while supporting kids and families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities Tampa Bay (RMHCTB)!

Get Involved: Task Force Dagger Special Operations Foundation (TFDSOF) and the Special Forces Foundation (SFF) are proud to co-host a golf tournament in Tampa, Florida—bringing together leaders, supporters, and community partners to raise awareness and funding for our nation’s Special Operations Forces and their families. Tentatively scheduled for the Sunday leading into Tampa SOF Week, the tournament offers a unique opportunity for participants to engage directly with SOF warriors while supporting two organizations making a lasting impact. The day will include a friendly yet competitive round of golf, followed by a closing dinner and brief speaking program. Guests will hear powerful firsthand stories from those whose lives have been transformed by the missions of TFDSOF and SFF.

Observe: National EMS Week honors emergency medical services professionals for their dedication. The event is organized by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) to recognize the contributions of EMTs and paramedics and raise public awareness of their role. 

Get Involved: Event to support Bay Pines National Cemetery Annual Memorial Day flag placement activities. Sponsorship is required to purchase replacement flags and Volunteers are sought to place approximately 32,000 flags at individual gravesites.

Get Involved: From April 27 to May 26, Memorial May events occur nationwide, bringing communities together to pay tribute to our nation’s heroes. With participants and partners, Carry The Load tangibly serves our country’s military, veterans, first responders, and their families. We unite thousands in a nationwide campaign that boasts hundreds of local events across the country to provide Americans active, meaningful opportunities to honor and remember our fallen heroes. Money raised throughout Memorial May goes towards supporting military, veterans, first responders, and their families so that they have access to counseling, adaptive training, suicide prevention, equine therapy, service dogs, job placements, transition, home improvements, scholarships for children, and more.

Observe: Holiday for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Get Involved: Donate to the Respect and Remember Foundation‘s JROTC and ROTC Annual Fundraiser to encourage graduating cadets going directly into the military with $1,000 appreciation gifts at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, Gibbs High School in Corryton, Tennessee, and state-level scholarships throughout the country.

Observe: The goal of PTS Awareness Month is to: Raise public awareness about PTS, Reduce the stigma associated with PTS, Ensure that those suffering from PTS receive proper treatment, and Highlight information about PTS symptoms, including available treatments.

Observe: D-Day was the name given to the June 6, 1944, invasion of the beaches at Normandy in northern France by troops from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries during World War II. France at the time was occupied by the armies of Nazi Germany, and the amphibious assault—codenamed Operation Overlord—landed some 156,000 Allied soldiers on the beaches of Normandy by the end of the day.

Get Involved: The Cateran YOMP is more than just a physical challenge through Scotland’s stunning Cairngorm Mountains—it’s a journey of healing, purpose, and connection. Participants push themselves to hike 22, 36, or 54 miles in 24 hours, but the true impact isn’t measured in miles. It’s measured in the conversations that happen along the way. In the moments when one veteran helps another push forward. In the quiet understanding between strangers who have walked similar paths in service and sacrifice. In 2025, the Robert Irvine Foundation proudly sponsored 65 participants to take part in this transformative event, joining thousands of other allied veterans from around the world. Together, they faced the elements, conquered the terrain, and found strength not just within themselves but in each other. This is the power of the YOMP: a global community walking side by side, building resilience, forming bonds, and proving that no one has to walk alone. When you support this mission, you’re not just helping veterans complete a hike — you’re helping them rediscover purpose, connection, and hope. 

Get Involved: Since 2007, the United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) has lost 48 heroes. Since 2015, the Marine Raider Foundation has hosted an Annual Resiliency and Remembrance Event, which brings together the families of our Marine Raider fallen heroes. The Foundation fully funds this event including travel, lodging, meals, and activities for these Gold Star Families (approximately $300-400K annually depending on location).

Get Involved: The Jackson in Action 83 Foundation Youth in Action Camp is held on MacDill Air Force each June to provide a half day full of fun for military children ages 6 to 14. The camp includes classic games such as dodgeball and tug o’war alongside things such as the Buccaneers QB Challenge and Football Drills and Skills stations. The event concludes with a boxed lunch before campers go home at noon. All campers receive a t-shirt and goodie bag stuffed with items including one of the foundation’s Danny Dogtags books written by Lindsey and Vincent Jackson.

Observe: Women Veterans Day is observed on June 12 to honor the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in 1948. This law allowed women to serve in the military as permanent members, not just during wartime, and in a variety of roles beyond nursing and secretarial work.

Observe: Flag Day is a United States holiday celebrated on June 14th to commemorate the adoption of the American flag on June 14, 1777. The holiday was officially established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916, but it wasn’t until 1949 that Congress approved it and President Harry Truman signed it into law.

Observe: On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress established the Continental Army to defend the 13 colonies during the American Revolution. The first men to enlist were from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Get Involved: Stay in Step is a veteran-founded and operated organization that provides long-term rehabilitation to veterans and civilians suffering from a spinal cord and/or traumatic brain injury, stroke, or any other neurological disorder resulting in paralysis in the Greater Tampa Bay and surrounding areas. The annual gala is our opportunity to raise awareness and the yearly funds that sustain our program. Held every September, the night is meant to highlight the achievements of our amazing clients, acknowledge the tireless efforts of our staff and recognize the contributions that others have made to support our program. The Annual Gala is a black-tie & gown event, that features a new “theme” every year, ensuring that no two events are ever the same.

Get Involved: The 25th Anniversary 9.11 Promise Run is a journey of remembrance and honor while also providing an opportunity to help the children of disabled and deceased first responders and military service members who sacrificed for our communities and country. The journey begins at the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial and ends three days later at Ground Zero in New York. Individuals and relay teams contribute by raising awareness of events surrounding September 11, 2001, and raising funds for $5,000 to $15,000 individual merit-based academic scholarships. Participation is possible through a flexible run/walk/bike option. Volunteers to help conduct the event are most welcome. Hosted by the 9.11 Promise.

Observe: In the United States, Patriot Day occurs on September 11 of each year in memory of the victims killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

Get Involved: Quantum Leap Farm‘s Colors of Courage is a fundraising luncheon benefitting program participants: veterans, pediatric cancer patients, kids and adults with special needs, and their family members. Money raised at this event will help underwrite scholarships for participants – veterans always attend programs free of charge, and many of our participants are undergoing financial hardship. The event is held at Armature Works in downtown Tampa. Doors open at 11:30am, presentation and lunch start at noon, and we’re wrapped up promptly at 1:00pm. There is no charge for tickets, but we do ask that guests RSVP.

Observe: The United States Air Force (USAF) celebrates its birthday on September 18th. United States Air Force (USAF) birthday. President Harry S. Truman signed the National Security Act, establishing the USAF as a separate branch of the U.S. military.

Observe: In the United States, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed on the third Friday in September. It honors those who were prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action. It is most associated with those who were POWs during the Vietnam War.

This year, the event will feature authors such as C.J. Box, Joseph Finder, Stacy Willingham, and Don Bentley, offering an up-close-and-personal look at their writing process, books, characters, and more. The event is organized by the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which aims to provide educational support to the children of Fallen Special Operations Personnel and Medal of Honor Recipients. The foundation’s mission is to ensure that the children of those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty receive full education opportunities.

Observe: In the United States, Gold Star Mother’s and Family Day honors the mothers, fathers, and families who have lost loved ones serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, a tradition stemming from World War I’s gold star service flags. 

Get Involved: The Runway 5K – Run for the Angels is an annual event that brings together the community to support Angel Flight West’s mission of providing free air transportation to individuals in need of medical care. Held at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield, Colorado, this unique race allows participants to run or walk on a flat airport runway, offering a memorable experience with scenic views. The event features both in-person and virtual participation options, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Get Involved: Help America’s VetDogs make a difference in the lives of veterans and first responders by participating in our America’s VetDogs 5K Run & Dog Walk, now part of the Suffolk County Veteran Run Series! Dogs are welcome to join you on your run/walk too! America’s VetDogs is also hosting a virtual run/walk for those that live far away and cannot attend.

Observe: National Domestic Violence Awareness Month unite survivors, connect organizations, and raise awareness about the serious issue of domestic violence and abuse. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) and other groups organize events, educational campaigns, and community gatherings during October to highlight different forms of abuse and promote prevention. 

Observe: Fire Prevention Month is October 2026, with Fire Prevention Week (the main observance) set for October 4-10, 2026, sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This annual event educates the public on fire safety, stemming from the Great Chicago Fire and highlighting key tips like checking smoke alarms, kitchen safety, and practicing escape plans, with specific campaigns focusing on issues like lithium-ion battery safety. 

Get Involved: Wine Women & Shoes is a fun new event paws4people introduced last fall.  WWS includes a sip, stop and shop marketplace filled with wine tastings from vintners around the country, unique shopping selections, and one-of-a-kind experiences, dinner, a live auction, and a high-end fashion show! This event will raise funds for the paws4people foundation. Paws4people’s mission is to educate and empower people to utilize Assistance Dogs to transform their lives. They place Assistance Dogs, at no cost to our clients, to turn their disability into an ability.

Observe: October 26 is recognized as the National Day of the Deployed, a day dedicated to honoring those deployed in service to the U.S. military. This observance honors all service members who have been deployed in service of our country. The day also acknowledges the sacrifices that military families make during deployment.

Observe: October 28 is a day of honor for the firefighters, police, paramedics and others who take action when danger and disaster strike. Get Involved: Veterans Day celebration at The ANNIKA. Active or retired military personnel (+a guest) will have complimentary access to the Hero Outpost (Hole 12). This LPGA event – The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican – is being hosted at Pelican Golf Club. In short time, the tournament has become one of the most prestigious stops on the LPGA schedule, and this week, the event will reach heights not previously reached. 

Donate a Toy: Join Valor NY as we collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute them to children during the holidays. The pick up of the toys by the Marines is done a couple weeks before Christmas. Observe: National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, also referred to as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day or Pearl Harbor Day, is observed annually in the United States on December 7, to remember and honor the 2,403 Americans who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, which led to the United States declaring war on Japan the next day and thus entering World War II.

Get Involved: The Pitch Roofing Golf Tournament is part of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF), at Carrollwood Country Club in Tampa, FL. This event aims to support the children of fallen Special Operations Personnel and Medal of Honor Recipients. Get Involved: Quantum Leap Farm (QLF) is hosting a holiday meal service and hygiene kit distribution for homeless veterans to celebrate their veterans’ accomplishments and success in the Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) MHICM program this year! Quantum Leap Farm is hosting an annual “Holiday Bash” for approximately 100 men and women in the James Haley VA Hospital’s MHICM Program. QLF has been hosting this event since 2008 for individuals with severe and persistent mental health conditions resulting from service related trauma. Most of these veterans are Vietnam era, and are experiencing financial hardship. Quantum Leap also serves them a nice (donated) meal too, and the VA staff gives them awards for things like smoking cessation, reduction in calls to the emergency help lines, managing an apartment independently, etc.

Observe: We recognize December 13th as the birthday of the National Guard. On this date in 1636, the first militia regiments in North America were organized in Massachusetts.

Observe: The United States Space Force (USSF) was established on December 20, 2019, making its birthday December 20th. To protect the nation’s interests in space, and to address the growing threat from near-peer competitors.
